The topic of the lecture is: “Civil War or Great Power: A Forecast of Russia’s Future”. The event will take place on Monday, January 22, 2024, in Magdeburg. Content of the lecture
The question whether Russia will break up in a civil war or can rise again to become a regional superpower is of great importance for Germany and will be examined in the lecture by Jurij Kofner. Kofner, a proven expert, who will not rely on gut feelings, media doomsday scenarios or one-sided viewpoints. Instead, he will draw on empirical findings and analyse economic, demographic and socio-political factors in particular in order to provide a well-founded assessment of Russia’s future.
About the speaker
Yuri Christopher Kofner, a Russian-German, is an outstanding expert on Russian conditions. With a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) and experience as head of a research department for Eurasian economic integration at the Higher School of Economics (HSE), Kofner has a deep insight into the topic. Between 2015 and 2020, he was also a research assistant at the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis in Vienna (IIASA), where he supervised a research project on a common economic space from Lisbon to Vladivostok. He is the founder of the AfD-affiliated MIWI Institute for Market Integration and Economic Policy.

The Friedrich-Friesen-Stiftung e.V. (FFS) is the non-profit and party-affiliated state foundation of the state association of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) in Saxony-Anhalt.
